Music video

The video for "I'd Lie for You" was directed by Howard Greenhalgh. The video pertained as a nod to the Raiders of the Lost Ark and featured Meat Loaf trying to rescue and win back the heart of the woman who cheated on him. The video is a sequel to the "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" video, starting off after the motorcycle rides into the sunset (which happened at the end of the "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" video). The video was criticized for being too complex and the action scenes being over the top.

Dana Patrick reappears from the previous video as Meat Loaf's beautiful love interest, lip-syncing once again, this time to vocals supplied by Patti Russo. As she finds herself in somewhat clichéd perilous situations, Meat Loaf (playing the hero's sidekick) always manages to rescue her in the nick of time, but the chiseled-looking Indiana Jones-style "action hero" (played by Brett Cullen, an actor who has sung backup for Meat Loaf) always shows up at the exact moment to claim the credit. Xander Berkley plays the villainous general in the video. Meat Loaf sings to her of his devotion from afar, even as the other man seduces her. The heroine even sings her lines to the other man. In the end, the adventurer chooses the treasure over the girl and flees, leaving Meat Loaf to finally declare his devotion.

The "I'd Lie for You" single was released as two CDs. The regular edition was backed with live versions of "Hot Patootie (Whatever Happened to Saturday Night?)" and "I'd Do Anything for Love", while the limited edition contained the non-album track "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma! and the album track "Runnin' for the Red Light".
